Measures of Central Tendency & Range
Central tendency is defined as “the statistical measure that identifies a single value as representative of an entire distribution.”
Mean. The average. (1) Add all the numbers (2) Divide the sum by the amount of numbers given.
155+155+158+164+168=800
Mean = 800/5 = 160
Median. Order the numbers, and then find the middle. If 2 numbers are in the middle add and divide by 2.
Mode. The number that occurs most frequently (Repeat the most)
Range. Subtract the largest minus the smallest. (Max – Min)
Range = 168-155 = 13
Outlier A value far from most others in a set of data
