Powers of Ten

A power of 10 is a power with a base of 10.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The powers of 10 are used to facilitate the work with large numbers.

Exponents are numbers that are written as a superscript.   Example: 10³

A positive exponent means repeated multiplication.

Example:

10³ = 10 × 10 × 10 = 1000

Any number (excluding zero) raised to the zero exponent is always one.

Multiply and Divide by powers of ten

Whole Numbers Multiplication by 10, 100, 1000

Dividing Whole Numbers by 10, 100, 1000
