6.6A Independent and Dependent Variables

Algebraic Representations of Two-Variable Relationships

Objective:

The student is expected to: Develop an understanding of how to represent algebraic relationships using graphs, tables and equations, and identify the independent and dependent variables.

Lesson Plan:

Standards:

6.6(A) identify independent and dependent quantities from tables and graphs.

6.6(B) write an equation that represents the relationship between independent and dependent quantities from a table.

6.6(C) represent a given situation using verbal descriptions, tables, graphs.

Hands-on, online curriculum aligned math worksheets that automatically tracks student progress.

Differentiation:

Accommodations for instruction will be provided as stated on each student’s (IEP) Individual Education Plan for special education, 504, at risk, and ESL/Bilingual. Differentiation will be through small groups, visuals, use of calculators, extra time, supplemental aids and reteach if necessary.

Homework:

Propose and solve 2 real-world problems related to dependent and independent variables.

Journal:

When finding the area of a circle, what is the independent variable? What is the
dependent variable?

Discuss the meaning of independent and dependent variables. Provide several
examples of each.
